In The News: Fedorchak joins Fox & Friends First on Tax Day

April 15, 2025

Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-ND) joinedFox & Friends First on Tax Day to highlight how House Republicans are leading to permanently extend President Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and provide historic tax relief for hardworking American families. Check out highlights and key excerpts from the interview below, edited for clarity:

On the importance of extending the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act:

“This is a historic moment, and we really have opened the door now to doing the hard work—the exciting work—the things that most of us were elected to do, and that is delivering on this historic tax relief.

"Today, being Tax Day, I know how hard a day it is for all the moms and dads out there struggling to make ends meet. Republicans are here to try to make it better.

"We're going to pass this historic tax measure, and in order to do that, we will make the changes necessary in our government spending.”

On ways to extend the tax cuts:

“We will be looking through all of the various committees through the House—I'm on the Energy Commerce Committee, and we're tasked with finding about $880 billion worth of savings.

"DOGE is helping us out, they've identified all kinds of different areas for saving, cutting, reforming, and rooting out fraud, waste, and abuse"

[...]

"And then [we're] looking at reforming programs to make them more affordable and at the same time, more sustainable, for American people."

[...]

“We'll also be looking at some of the energy programs, [asking] how can we save money? How can we direct money to the things that are the most important to American citizens?

“[We’re] also looking to increase funding for border safety, border patrol, border control—so we can restore order at the border, and at the same time, deliver this historic tax relief to American people, to fuel our economy, to help people afford things in their homes, and to really get our country back on track.”

On raising the top tax rate:

"I have not heard this gaining traction. Most Republicans think we have a spending problem, not a revenue problem.

"And when you see all the waste and the fraud and abuse that has existed in the last four years under Biden, and many years previous to that, there's a lot of room for saving.

"So, I wouldn't take anything off the table at this point, but that is not where we’re looking first.

"We're looking to try to reduce spending, reduce cost, and pass the historic tax reform and extend the tax cuts that have been in existence for the last 8 years.”

The Trump tax cuts House Republicans passed in 2017 are set to expire this December. Unless Congress intervenes, the average American will see a 22% increase in their taxes. For the average family of four in North Dakota, that means a nearly $2,400 tax hike. Additionally, nearly 24,000 family farms in North Dakota would see their death tax exemption reduced, and the Child Tax Credit would be slashed in half for 40 million households.

House Republicans are leading on a package that will make the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent, unleash economic growth and energy production, root out waste in federal agencies, and further secure the border.
