Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-ND) today voted in support of the Critical Mineral Dominance Act, legislation that strengthens domestic production of critical and hardrock minerals by streamlining federal permitting, prioritizing key mining projects, and reducing America’s reliance on foreign mineral supply chains.
“Energy security is national security. Right now, the Chinese Communist Party exercises strong control of the critical mineral supply chain—creating a real vulnerability for the United States. Expanding domestic mineral production is essential to supporting our energy infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, national defense, and emerging technologies,” Fedorchak said. “This bill will help increase mineral production, strengthen our supply chains, and create good-paying jobs at home.”
The Critical Mineral Dominance Act codifies key executive actions to accelerate responsible domestic mining and reduce the nation’s reliance on imported minerals—many of which are currently sourced from countries that do not share U.S. values or strategic interests.
The legislation directs federal agencies to identify priority mining projects, speed up permitting where appropriate, expand geologic mapping, and review regulations that unnecessarily delay domestic mineral development. It also requires clearer analysis of the economic costs of America’s reliance on imported minerals and highlights opportunities to recover critical minerals from existing mine sites and byproducts.
ICYMI: Earlier this year, Fedorchak attended the Talon Metals ribbon cutting ceremony marking the launch of the Beulah Minerals Processing Facility near Beulah, ND. This effort, backed by a nearly $115 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, will advance domestic battery material production, diversify North Dakota’s coal mining industry, and strengthen U.S. energy and mineral independence.
