Fedorchak meets with United States Trade Representative Leaders on Tariff Impacts
Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-ND) met with leaders from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) this week to discuss the impact of tariffs on North Dakota agriculture and energy industries.
“North Dakota’s farmers and energy producers are on the front lines of our trade policies, and I understand the real concerns they have about market access, pricing, supply chain disruptions, and uncertainty caused by tariffs,” Fedorchak said. “I had a productive conversation with USTR leaders about these challenges, particularly regarding retaliatory tariffs from China, Mexico, and Canada. I was encouraged to hear that USTR is making new market opportunities a top priority, and understands the urgency of this effort for farmers.”
The trade officials also said imports and exports of agriculture commodities could be exempted under current USMCA, depending on the decisions of Mexico and Canada.
“I underscored my strong support for the Trump administration’s emphasis on American energy dominance and the critical role new energy infrastructure such as pipelines, oil and gas producing equipment, and power generation facilities play in achieving this goal,” Fedorchak continued. “The administration understands the importance of enhancing existing supply chains while also developing new ones in American if we are going to meet these goals.”
The administration’s comprehensive trade policy is the January 20, 2025, Presidential Document, America First Trade Policy.
“These issues are vital to national and economic security,” Fedorchak added. “I will continue working with the Trump administration as trade policies evolve and take effect, advocating for solutions that protect our producers and strengthen North Dakota’s economy.”
