Fedorchak Announces Energy and Commerce Subcommittee Assignments for 119th Congress

January 14, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-ND) received her subcommittee assignments for the House Committee on Energy and Commerce for the 119th Congress. As a newly appointed member of the committee, Rep. Fedorchak will serve on three key subcommittees: Subcommittee on Energy, Subcommittee on Environment, and Subcommittee on Communications & Technology.

“I’m thrilled to serve on the Energy, Environment, and Communications & Technology subcommittees this Congress,” Fedorchak said. “Given my background as a Public Service Commissioner and North Dakota’s incredible lands and abundant natural resources, serving on these subcommittees will allow me to make the biggest difference for our state.”

In December, Fedorchak was selected by her colleagues to serve on the Energy and Commerce Committee, the first freshman Congresswoman in 14 years. The Committee, first established in 1795, is the oldest legislative Committee in the House of Representatives and has jurisdiction over health care, energy, environment, technology, data privacy and security, broadband, and much more.

“Today, I am proud to announce the House Committee on Energy and Commerce subcommittee assignments for the 119th Congress,” said Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Guthrie (R-KY). “Energy and Commerce Republicans are ready to hit the ground running, delivering for President Trump’s America First agenda to restore the American Dream.”

“Thank you to Chairman Guthrie for this opportunity. This committee means business and will be delivering solutions in short order to strengthen American energy production and jobs, develop and preserve our resources, and expand broadband infrastructure across rural communities,” she added.

Rep. Fedorchak’s extensive energy background includes 12 years as a North Dakota energy regulator where she regulated 5 multi state monopoly utilities, permitted more than $15 billion of energy infrastructure, and advocated for market rules and policies to support reliable and affordable energy resources.

The Subcommittee on Energy has jurisdiction over matters referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce that relate to national energy policy, energy infrastructure and security, energy related Agencies and Commissions, and all laws, programs, and government activities affecting energy matters. Agencies and Commissions under the subcommittee’s jurisdiction include: The US Department of Energy, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The Subcommittee on Environment has jurisdiction over matters relating to soil, air, noise, and water contamination, as well as emergency environmental response.

The Subcommittee on Communications & Technology has jurisdiction over matters that relate to interstate and foreign electronic communications, as well as technology generally. The subcommittee focuses on emergency and public safety communications, cybersecurity, privacy, and data security. Agencies and Commissions under the subcommittee’s jurisdiction include: The Federal Communications Commission, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, the Office of Emergency Communications in the Department of Homeland Security, and all aspects of the above-referenced jurisdiction related to the Department of Homeland Security.
