Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-ND) joined Fox Business host Larry Kudlow yesterday to discuss her recently introduced SAVE America through REAL ID Act. The legislation is designed to support implementation of the SAVE America Act by helping states provide REAL IDs to eligible American citizens. Check out highlights from the interview below.
On the SAVE America with REAL ID Act:
Today is election day in my district, my state of North Dakota.
And the one thing that every voter in my state will have to do, in order to vote is to show a photo ID—an ID that actually confirms their citizenship.
My bill, the Save America with Real ID Act, is really intended to be a companion to the SAVE America Act.
It will create an intended on-budget effect in the Senate.
It will provide grants to states to help them pay for real IDs for American citizens who don’t have them, so that they too can have the proper identification to vote in federal elections once we pass the SAVE America Act.
On advancing election integrity through reconciliation:
First of all, it helps address any concerns that creating an ID requirement will stifle voter participation.
So, let’s help those who don’t have them, get an ID.
And then it also creates an intended on-budget impact in the Senate to get this through reconciliation 3.0. It’s common sense requiring American voters to have an ID to vote in American elections—voters want this.
On support from congressional leaders and North Dakotans:
[Speaker Johnson and Leader Scalise] like this idea. Senator Thune likes this idea.
We’re working to get this done, and again, get this bill passed.
When I’m home in my district, this is a number one thing I hear from constituents is, “Why can’t we pass this, this is common sense?”
North Dakota has proven we’ve got great election integrity.
We’ve had voter ID requirements in place for many years, and it absolutely creates more participation, not less.
