Fedorchak votes to strengthen election integrity with support for the SAVE Act
Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-ND) voted in favor of H.R. 22, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, reinforcing her commitment to free, fair, and secure American elections. The SAVE Act mandates uniform proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration in federal elections, a standard that mirrors the effective practices long upheld in North Dakota.
"In North Dakota, we've set a precedent for election integrity by requiring voters to present valid identification that confirms their name, current residential address, and date of birth," Fedorchak said. "This approach has safeguarded our elections against fraud and maintained public confidence in our democratic process. It’s time the rest of the country follows our state’s lead to make sure only eligible Americans are voting."
As the only state without a voter registration system, North Dakota has implemented stringent identification requirements to maintain the integrity of its elections. Residents must present valid identification that includes their name, residential address, and date of birth to cast their ballots. This approach has proven effective in ensuring that only American citizens participate in the electoral process.
The SAVE Act aligns with North Dakota's proven practices by advocating for clear and consistent voter verification processes nationwide. As Secretary of State Michael Howe said, “I applaud Congresswoman Fedorchak and the House of Representatives for passing the SAVE Act. The SAVE Act will further ensure that only qualified electors of North Dakota are voting in our elections through increased access to federal immigration data from Secretary Noem and the Department of Homeland Security. North Dakota has been proactive in enacting commonsense election integrity initiatives such as a voter ID requirement, proof of citizenship, and only using paper ballots. Free and fair elections are the foundation of American democracy. Congress’s SAVE Act compliments North Dakota’s efforts in having a trusted, secure, and accurate election system.”
Fedorchak will continue to support policies that enhance the security and reliability of our electoral system, ensuring that the foundation of our democracy remains strong for generations to come.
